Overview

The Program is conducted twice weekly at the Palmetto Golf Course

  • Every Monday and Wednesday for 20 weeks beginning November 2, 2009
  • Life skills are taught by business, human service and educational professionals.
  • Golf instruction is delivered by PGA Professional instructors.
  • Adults serve as mentors to the participants.
  • A full course dinner is provided at each session.
  • Post secondary education is the main goal.

The Midnight Golf Programs

Financial Literacy Education – Understanding personal finance is one of the critical factors that impact the success of people. The topics discussed include the financial impact of College, personal credit, basic banking, saving and investment.

Personal Development – This programming includes interpersonal communication skills including non-verbal techniques connected with attire, greeting, posture and attitude.

Professional Skill set – Every participant is required to participate in the public speaking contest producing a three minute speech. There is also emphasis on effective professional and creative writing.

College Preparation – The college preparation training helps participants select schools based on choosing post secondary education options on factors including professional interest, academic thresholds and financial capacity.

Golf – Every participant learns to play golf, taught by PGA professionals. They are instructed in playing and non-playing aspects of the game including history, rules, etiquette, score keeping and equipment maintenance.

Mentors – play an important role in supporting youth participation and ensuring their success. Focused mentoring is conducted in small group discussions on a wide variety of subjects intended to supplement the life skill focus of the session.
