Detroit — Supermodel Niki Taylor made an appearance downtown today on behalf of Reader’s Digest to present the city with a $1,000 check that will benefit the Midnight Golf Program that helps teach life skills to students.

Taylor, who was recently on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” show, said the money will help the high school students with financial planning, college preparation and picking up golf skills.

“This program actually gets them to make that first step and to push them because it is a rough world out there,” Taylor said. “What a great program. And they get to learn how to play golf, which I think it’s fantastic.”

Taylor was representing the Reader’s Digest “We Hear You, America” tour that doles out funds to causes around the country. The recreational vehicle tour plans to visit 100 cities in 100 days and distribute $5 million. Detroit could get more money for its midnight golf program if people vote for the program on the magazine’s web site.

Detroit was picked, Taylor said, “because it’s such a great town and (Detroiters) are very resilient. You guys are fighters and they wanted to spotlight Detroit.”

A representative from the mayor’s office accepted the money.

  1. Train up a child in the way he/she should goand when he is old he shall not depart from it. Prov 22:6 Thank you for training our children

  2. Midnight Golf, is in the top five best things I’ve ever done in my life!
And I am happy that I got the opportunity to come back
and do it again. Thank you Ms. Renee, Mr. Gamblin and to everyone
else that made Midnight Golf possible!

  3. Hello Readers,

I am a former teacher with the Detroit Board of Education. I know how superior programs … affect young people in making better decison.
It has been a joy to see young adult’s blossom into something that maybe they never thought possible.
I have recently re-joined the power of volunteering in the community as our President Barack Obama suggested and joined forces with a powerful team of Ms Renee Fluker with her board of directors, PGA Professionals, and staff volunteers of the Midnight Golf program.

My middle daughter Whitney participated in the Midnight Golf program 2008-2009 and now is in her freshman year at Michigan State University studying Psychology and forensic science. I felt an obligation to give back to the program for what it has done for her, and more so it cost me nothing for her to participate. I believed this program to be a jewel for youth who are looking to become better than mediocre. I am fortunate to be part of the Midnight Golf program to help impact our young people to dream, to help mold themselves with other tools alongside their high school experience for the challenges of life they will meet.
I look forward to the end of the program to see what blossoms from the gardens of the Midnight golf program.

    Mr. Breech

  4. Hello Midnight Golf,

It has be a pleasure working with the Midnight Golf Program Staff, Mentors and PGA Professionals. I have seen the growth in our young adults, in particularly seeing the growth from the Tee Time Sessions in which is a great asset of the program. I believe all who completed the program have the tools to create good visions of success, to have great college careers and become good citizens of what ever community, in which they wish to reside after college.
I would like to thank Ms Renee and Mr. Gamlin for their visions and allowing me to partake in the learning process of developing young people and getting a better understanding of what midnight golf has to offer and also in my own personal development. I have learned a lot from the Midnight golf Program and its purposes. I believe I have foreseen its outlooks and know where it is going and is projecting its young people in the right directions. Midnight Golf is focusing young people minds to help them to achieve and think higher than they would ever have if they were not a part of a program like Midnight Golf Program. Again, it was a great experience for me as well as it was for the young people who benefited the most and that, is what is most important.
If my schedule permits me to, I would love to be a volunteer and mentor next years 2010-2011 class.
    God Bless

  5. Midnight Golf Team

“If we stop learning today, we stop teaching tomorrow.” This is a ever lasting program, Dreams do come True.

Thank you Midnight Golf for loving our children

    Mr. Richard
